The place, or neighbourhood, known as Saint-Michel is composed of the Canteloup and Meynard squares, both situated on either side of the basilica by the same name, Saint-Michel. A popular bastion of the city centre, this most lively and cosmopolitan part of the city has its roots in the medieval Bordeaux of merchants and craftsmen.
