The Pont de Pierre Bridge

Pont de Pierre, the first bridge in Bordeaux, was inaugurated in 1822 after 12 years of complex work. Spanning the 487-meter wide Garonne river, the 17 arches of stone and bricks are a nod to the 17 letters of the name of Napoleon Bonaparte, the instigator of this ambitious construction. Designed by the engineers Claude Deschamps and Jean-Baptiste Basilide Billaudel, it has reunited two banks and two cities: Bordeaux and Bastide.
